::MORE BUYERS CONSIDER ENERGY EFFICIENCY AS 'VERY IMPORTANT' WHEN CONSIDERING A HOME FOR PURCHASE:: (Realtor.org) |
My personal tips to 'GREENING' YOUR HOME (& getting more green in your pocket, in return) ::: A FEW SIMPLE LOW COST WAYS TO TRADE GREEN FOR GREEN Implement systems:: Sound complicated? Not at all. Start with this simple change: Buy 3 small trashbins and place 1 each in your kitchen, bathroom and office. Use that as your recepticle for "recyclable items" such as empty toothpaste boxes, empty paper towel rolls, glass and plastic containers, used tape rolls and stapler boxes, etc...i'm telling you. you'll reduce your trash by at least one-third. It 'feels' good too. ::: Sweep! Don't water your driveway, patio, balconey. The run-off factor is one thing. But we are living in drought conditions in So. Cal, so we really have to be diligent when it comes to water conservation. That's just one of the ways; how about shorter showers (or showering together sometimes :), larger loads of COLD-wash laundry and loading up those energy efficient dishwashers. Can u believe how simple this stuff is?? All this will save you money too...imagine how good you'll sleep at night? ::: We already touched upon being "resourceful." Embrace the Spaniard in you and roll those rrr's RE-USE RECYCLE REDUCE Ohhh yeah, Green is Sexy too? Rrrrr! ::: Ceiling Fans! It took me 4 years to install them in my house because I thought they weren't stylish or cute...DUH! Best $75 bucks I ever spent to have mine installed! Not only have I saved loads of bucks on my energy costs but I'm cooler (and greener) than ever...who knew? ::: Granted! It's plugged into a 'clapper' but my bedroom lamp (and all the others in my house) uses an energy efficient lightbulb. The cost upfront is a tad higher than usual lightbulbs but these last twice as long which mean i have to buy (and throw away) less. Saving cash/saving planet :: clap along with me! ::: I'm all about low-maintainence! I suppose, that's why I've always been attracted to 'succulents," a type of drought-tolerant plant (i think possibly related to the cactus family). Besides the names being kinda sexy, they are visually beautiful with varieties that come in many different beautiful shapes, forms and sizes. But these hardy little plants are virtually the easiest plants to care for as they require very little watering, resist extreme conditions and can be used indoors and out! I love them so much, I'm constantly taking pics of mine...check out a couple below::: |
